I miss performing.

Its been a while since A Horrible Night to Have a Curse was really active, I think we've been overly enjoying a dry spell since the departure of our drummer Marshall. Yeah, we're working with a new dude, and yeah, we have a few new songs being written, but our output has been dismally low. Its been over a month now since we played a show, which bothers me to no end, and it almost feels like we don't even know how anymore.

We've been used to atleast one show per month if not one per week for so long now. In fact, we haven't gone over a month without a show since we first formed as Tragedy of Tomorrow in early 2007. We do have one tenatively planned on August 9th at the Kaysville Barnes Park, but who knows if it'll go through. Its being set up by a fledgeling "record company" called Krusher Records who first reared their heads a few months ago based out of Layton, UT. They approached us at a show at Mojo's in Ogden. They seemed like cool dudes, but they definately had the over-enthusiasm of pie-in-the-sky dreamers.

We've been working a lot lately on modifying our sound to include some of the heavier aspects of mosh and deathmetal, a kind of music we all love, but have never tapped into. We actually have two songs we have written under the new name A Horrible Night to Have a Curse, and I think they utilize those techniques well. We don't have any recordings of Skeleton Frame or Just to Make it Worse yet, but we will hopefully have a few demos up by the end of the year.

A lot of people have been complaining about our new name, and frankly, it doesn't bother me at all. You see, we did it for us, not for you. Ha ha, seriously though, we're a dinky local band, and I don't think our name matters much. What I do hope however, is that people will take a minute to listen to what we've made, we work hard, and its nice to see that someone appreciates it.

How I miss performing. Its a feeling like no other, it really makes you feel alive. Its really something to be in front of a few hundred people in a kick butt place like the Avalon Theater, completely connected with the other four dudes onstage with you. Its really amazing how a bunch of disfunctional very un-musicianlike 20 year olds can write and combine different parts to make (what I think) is very good music.

Tetherball rules!

When was the last time you played tetherball? Its been years for me, elementary in fact, but the two guitarists in our band, Andrew and Ryan Heidt recently aquired one from their neighbors, and I'm telling you, its amazing.

Freeway Troubles

Its been a while since I've been able to drive my work route in a timely fashion, several months actually. Driving up 215 N to 115 N past Farmington and Layton then to Clearfield, I run right into the lane closures associated with the Legacy Highway project. Ugh. Depending on the day, the entire highway, north and south can be closed to one lane going both ways. You would think that they'd have the closures during the day and late night, but alas, no. Not only do they have the bulk of construction operating during the day, but they keep it going into rush hour. So as I drive and the later it becomes, the longer the line of semi trucks gets, until around 3 o'clock the four lane line of traffic is STOPPED from Farmington (Lagoon overpass) clear south to Bountiful (abt. 500 S). I don't know who exactly is in charge of roadwork policy in our state goverment, but frankly, I'm ashamed that the good people of Utah let them into office. Its insulting to our intelligence. Today however, only one lane of traffic was closed throughout the day. This made me slightly nervous. After so many stressful traffic filled days, how could my bad luck possibly allow this? How am I to be alarmingly bum rushed in the future to make up for this momentary lax of Trevor-torturing protocol? I'll bet they decide to close ALL lanes of the freeway while eating their lunch in the middle of the road. I can see it now. OR, they could simply park a car on the side of the road, seeing how motorists are so fond of slowing to stare at other cars. This has in fact created near closure conditions, simply becuase some douche decided to stare at a slightly odd construction vehicle. Aaargh! It's sometimes very clear why I don't carry a gun.

Why do we even try?

What is it that makes us care about whether or not other people care about us? Why should it be so important that other people pay attention to the little things in OUR lives when we decline from doing the same for them? I guess its just base selfishness. Everyone feels like they are the center of attention (or should be) and that the failure to be recognized is a slight on their importance. That's where myspace and facebook come in. Finally, a way to ensure that EVERYONE can see what we are doing and how we are feeling. A self inflicted voyeuristic plea for attention. PLEASE EVERYONE LOOK AT ME!!! And when your new posts or updates go unnoticed... sigh. But really, we are all feeling the same, all wanting to be noticed and have interest taken in us. And no one is exempt, I feel the need just like everyone else, but one has to ask one's self, "Is it really worth it? Does what I do need to be examined? Should I put out the effort to throw my world out there?" The answer, I think, is "Yes". But, do try, all of us, to give some attention to others, show a little interest in the next guy's life.

Hellboy 2

So... while awesome visually, it didn't have the best CGI in the world, but when you look past that, the conceptual design was extremely interesting, as is usual with Del Toro. The story and acting lacked horribly, also usual for Del Toro. The movie essentially rode on its ability to awe the the senses, but character development was left entirely to the first movie, and we all know how well that one did.... bleh. There were a few awkward tender scenes that, frankly, were a bit too embarrassing to keep watching, since the characters had no hold on you. The biggest thing with this franchise is, that who likes Hellboy? Who honestly likes his character as portrayed in these movies? I like the idea, but the execution is a little dodgy.

Spaghetti in the morning

It really sucks when you have such little choices cereal wise, to the point where you end up having spaghetti for breakfeast. No matter what time it is, cereal needs to come first.

The useless.

Today I woke up at 1 o'clock. Ugh. Accidentally missed Matt Merrel's homecoming, feel a little bad, but I couldn't seem to get up.
